If there is one brand that can safely claim the term ‘pilot’s watch’, it would have to be IWC. With a rich history of supplying aviation watches to both civilians and militaries since the ’30s, the brand continues to make aviation-inspired watches to this day.

One of the examples is what you see here today- the IWC Mark XVII Top Gun Miramar. First released in 2016, I would certainly say that it is a sports watch that uses the design language of pilot watches from the past. With a polished 41mm ceramic case and a similarly toned anthracite dial, it certainly looks the part as a solid tool watch with the right amount of ruggedness. The case back is titanium along with the crown and buckle, and it is powered by the IWC Calibre 30110. To top this off, the numerals and hands are finished in an off white tone, adding to the vintage appeal.

On the wrist, despite its seemingly larger diameter, it sits very well and wears small for its size, largely due to the thin profile of the case and darker tones used. It’s a great everyday watch that will certainly appeal to not only the IWC crowd but to those who are looking for a fuss-free, casual and solid piece.
